original Japanese army officers Samurai sword from World War 2. The blade and the mountings are in Near MINT condition. The sword is a katana and has a blade length of 26.75 inches (68 cm). It is well constructed and the hada is a tight wood grain itame hada. The hamon is a Mino style Sanbonsugi gunome hamon of alternating peaks. The hamon is present the length of the blade ending in a jizo boshi. The tang is signed Noshu ju Kanetoshi Saku, a well-known wartime Seki swordsmith. There is a showa stamp on the tang.
The mountings are Type 98 Shin Gunto and in Near MINT condition. The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. There is little to no fraying. The tsuba is classic WW2 with two accompanying metal seppas. The saya (scabbard) is wood painted black. The scabbard is in Excellent condition, showing some scratches, a small dent, and a few areas of missing finish, retaining roughly 95-97% of finish. The blade is in Excellent condition. There are no nicks, very little rust, and a few scratches along the blades length. There are no major flaws like hagire.
Given the high quality condition and reputation of the swordsmith, I think this sword would be an outstanding addition for a collector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.
